How do I convert px to rem?
Divide the pixel value by the root font size, which is 16 px in every major browser unless the site or the reader changes it. For example, 24 px ÷ 16 = 1.5 rem.
Why use rem instead of px?
Because rem follows the reader's own font-size setting. If someone sets their browser's default text to 20 px, a 1.5 rem heading grows to 30 px, while a 24 px heading stays at 24 px. Sizing text in rem is how a page respects that choice, which is what WCAG's resize-text criterion (1.4.4) asks for.
What if my root font size is not 16 px?
Divide by your root size instead. A common pattern sets
html { font-size: 62.5% }, which makes the root 10 px, so 24 px becomes 2.4 rem. This converter assumes the 16 px default.What is the difference between rem and em?
