How is exact age calculated?
By counting whole years since the date of birth, then whole months since the last birthday, then the remaining days. Someone born on 15 August 1990 is 36 years, 1 month and 9 days old on 24 September 2026.
How are birthdays on 29 February handled?
In a non-leap year a 29 February birthday is treated as falling after 28 February, so the new year of age starts on 1 March. Legal conventions vary by country; some use 28 February instead.
Why does my age in days not equal years × 365?
Because of leap years. Every fourth year (except most century years) has 366 days, so each full year of age averages 365.24 days. The calculator counts the actual calendar days between the two dates.
Can I calculate age on a date other than today?
Yes. Set the "Age At Date" field to any day in the past or future, which is useful for eligibility cut-offs such as school admissions, exams, pensions or visa rules that specify an age on a particular date.
