How do US, UK and EU women's clothing sizes compare?

UK sizes run four higher than US sizes, and EU sizes run 30 higher than US. So a US 8 is a UK 12 and an EU 38, and a US 4 is a UK 8 and an EU 34. Italian sizes add a further four to the EU number, and French match the Italian.

How do men's clothing sizes convert to EU?

Men's tops use the same letter sizes in the US and UK. In Europe they are numbered: S is EU 46, M is EU 48, L is EU 50 and XL is EU 52. Trousers are sized by waist in inches, so W32 is EU 48.

What measurements do I need to find my size?

Chest (at the fullest point), natural waist and hips, measured with a soft tape held level and snug but not tight. A women's M in the chart suits a chest of 89–94 cm, a waist of 69–74 cm and hips of 94–99 cm.

Why do sizes vary between brands?

Size labels are not standardised, and many brands size generously (so-called vanity sizing). Use the chart to get close, then check the brand's own measurements, especially for fitted items.
