Understanding shoe sizes

A shoe size converter matches your size across the world's main sizing systems — US (men's and women's), UK, India, EU and Japan — plus the actual foot length in centimetres. It is essential when buying shoes from an overseas website or brand, where the very same shoe can carry quite different numbers. Pick your US size above to see every equivalent at once.

How the sizes relate. UK and US sizes use the barleycorn, where one size step equals 1/3 inch (about 8.47 mm), and a US men's size sits one step above the same UK size. EU sizes use the Paris point, where one step equals 2/3 cm (about 6.67 mm). Japanese (JP) sizing is simply the foot length in centimetres. Because brands round differently and lasts vary, treat cross-system numbers as close equivalents rather than an exact formula.

Worked example. If your foot measures about 26 cm, the chart points to roughly a US men's 9, a UK 8 (and therefore an India 8), an EU 41–42 and a Japanese 26. The same length is a US women's 10.5, since women's US numbers run about 1.5 higher than men's for an equal foot length.

Where it's used. Size conversion matters most when shopping across borders — ordering trainers from a US store, boots from Europe, or comparing a UK-sized Indian brand with an EU-sized international one. When a size falls between two rows, or a brand runs narrow or wide, matching the centimetre foot length is the safest way to avoid returns.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my UK shoe size if I know my US size?
UK men's sizes generally run about one size smaller than US men's, so a US men's 9 is close to a UK 8 — and in this chart India uses the same number as UK. Women's US numbers run higher than UK. Because brands vary, matching your foot length in centimetres is the most reliable method.
How do I measure my foot size at home?
Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure the distance in centimetres. Measure both feet in the evening, when feet are slightly larger, and use the bigger one. Match that length to the Foot Length column to find your size.
Are men's and women's shoe sizes different?
Yes. For the same foot length, a women's US size is typically about 1.5 sizes higher than the men's US size — so a women's 10.5 is roughly a men's 9. UK and EU systems are largely unisex, using one number for both, which is why the chart lists US Men and US Women separately but a single UK or EU value.
Does India use UK or US shoe sizing?
Most Indian footwear brands follow UK sizing, so your Indian size is usually the same number as your UK size. Some international and sportswear brands sold in India print US or EU sizes instead, so check the label — or match your foot length in cm to be sure.
